Two days left till the beginning of the
Opening Ceremony of the London Olympics 2012. HTMi Swiss Hotel School Olympic
team is fully geared up and engaged in the operation. We got our lovely
uniforms and now we are a part of “Olympic Army”. It is quite curious how the
idea of Olympic movement transform people and gets them closer together. And I
experienced it first-hand. People wearing the same uniform are always smiley
and you can see the spark in the eyes, how happy and proud they are as they
wear the uniform and are the part of this big event. Practically every day I
meet somebody in the street, in the tube, anywhere and we have a quick
conversation, get to know each other, share the latest news from different
venues, tell a couple stories from our places of operation, discuss the news
that are presented by press, also – it is funny enough, almost all those who I
met asked me if I got the chance to see somebody, like an athlete or any other
public person involved into the Olympics, it is a shame though to admit that I
haven’t, however there is still a lot of time, besides that not the most
important part, the most significant here is experience
Olympic Games besides being a social event
for public is also a great socialisation opportunity for those who are “behind
the curtains”, organisers, workers, security guards, transport department
workers, caterers, anybody - regardless of the position, will meet loads of new
people and make loads of friends. Many volunteers are pensioners, and they are
happy to engage themselves in all activities that take place here as well as
share their experience (and wow they have a lot, as they all have different
backgrounds). As a matter of fact Olympic Games as an event is a great tool to
integrate people and get closer contemporary youth and older generations, to
open people’s minds towards others people who have different age, gender,
nationality, race, etc.
As for our jobs now - we are dislocated in
on the Olympic Family Hotels, and hosting first, though considerably important
events prior to the Games. Meetings and official Sessions that are taking place
in those hotels will reveal progress reports to the world by the future Olympic
Hosts. Their achievements and objectives that were fulfilled towards the
Olympic Movement will be discussed and celebrated. We are there to help and
assist with the supervision of those events, making sure they go smoothly,
securely and pleasantly for those who participate in them. And it is just the
beginning - there are still dozens of events happening before the Games!
Everything that will be happening in the
following days and after will be covered by HTMi Olympic Team, so…
Stay Tuned!
