Hi, I am
Laura, a Postgraduate Diploma graduate of January 2009.
To begin
with, I really want to say how grateful I am for the opportunity that my
School
HTMi has given me. I am very satisfied as with the continuous support of
the
teachers in HTMi, I managed to build a very strong foundation for my
career,
during the semester spent there. When I started working I realized that
the
knowledge gained during the PG Course has given me a good advantage, and
it was
exactly what I needed to start my career in the hotel industry.
My first
placement was in Venice, Italy working for Hilton Molino Stucky, (www.molinastuckyhilton.com)
as
Hilton Meetings Agent. I managed to get this job as I’ve met the Hilton
Graduate
Development Manager for UK & Europe at one of the International
Recruitment
Days at HTMi Campus. In Hilton, mainly I was working closely with the
Events
& Banqueting departments in order to provide the highest quality
services
to our business guests for the meetings, congresses and other events we
hosted.
During the 6 months spent there,
I’ve improved a lot my professional skills and I gained significantly
more
knowledge which helps me to manage better the operational part of the
events.
I decided
to make the next step in my career with Marriott. Since March 2010 I am
working
in Renaissance Hotel Wuhan, China, as Management Trainee in F&B
department(www.marriot.com).
I felt the culture of Marriott
since my arrival day. In that afternoon I was greeted already at the
reception
by almost everybody in the management team; by doing this they’ve let me
know
that my presence in this hotel counts, and that they believe and act
accordingly to the corporate culture. I am working closely with the
F&B
management team, and my main tasks at this point of my program are to
supervise
the daily operations in the Brasserie, our Western restaurant, to train
and
coach the staff. I am able to successfully accomplish my duties, as
during my
semester in HTMi, the teachers have given me the orientation towards
quality
guest service, and also all the knowledge and skills necessary for this
job.
I am looking forward to attend the opening of the
Renaissance Putuo Hotel in Shanghai, where I hope to meet in person the
owner of
this wonderful hotel chain, Mr. Bill Marriott, as this would be a great
honour
for me. I am very excited about my future with Marriott, as I share the
corporate culture and values of the company, I am proud to say that I am
part
of such a great team and I intend to stay and grow together with this
excellent
hotel chain.
I
really miss being in HTMi in Soerenberg as I have great memories from
the
period I’ve spent there. I really want to go back someday to visit it,
as I
still stay in touch with my colleagues and teachers.Being
in the HTMi Alumni Club, I get regular
updateswith the news from HTMi. I am grateful to all my teachers in HTMi
and I appreciate them for helping me become what I am today. I consider
that
each teacher has put a brick on the foundation of my career in the hotel
industry, and I am thankful to each and everyone for this.
My very
best wishes to everyone!
